Indian Indices

Indian equity benchmarks ended sharply lower on October 19, led by heavy selling in private banking stocks. The Nifty50 declined 257.20 points, or 1.11%, to close at 22,888.95, while the BSE Sensex fell 876.37 points, or 1.17%, to settle at 73,852.90. Market breadth remained weak. Of the 3,664 stocks traded on the NSE, 846 advanced, 2,717 declined, and 101 remained unchanged.

Buzzing stocks on BSE

1. IDBI Bank fell 1.14% to Rs. 83.15 after reporting a 39.2% y-o-y decline in standalone net profit to Rs. 2,205.45 crore in Q2FY27.
2. Union Bank of India surged 5.17% to Rs. 180.90 after its standalone net profit jumped 30.3% y-o-y to Rs. 5,537.20 crore in Q2FY27.

Global Signals

Asian markets ended mixed as investors remained cautious amid concerns over the global technology sector and corporate earnings. Major regional indices traded in a narrow range, reflecting subdued risk appetite.

European markets traded lower in early deals, pressured by weak global sentiment and profit-booking in financial and technology stocks.
